William (Bill) Dodson

¡¡

Bill is General Manager of Asia Base Law & Projects, a European company that provides Western businesses investing in China with legal services and investment feasibility studies. Established 1994, Asia Base is located in Suzhou, China.

¡¡

Formerly Managing Director of Silk Road Advisors, he is a graduate of Cornell University. He has served on the International Programs Faculty for the University of Notre Dame (USA) Executive Education Department. He is conversant in Chinese language.

He has been quoted on China-related business issues in Newsweek Magazine; National Public Radio; China Economic Review; Insight Magazine, a publication of the American Chamber of Commerce-Shanghai; Shanghai Business Review; Inbound Logistics; Electronic Business Magazine; China International Business Magazine; Bo Xun News; World Trade Magazine, Boss Magazine and others.

 

He writes the popular blog This is China!, Discussions on the Trends Shaping China Business and Society. A Management Consultant for the past twenty years, he has served as a managing consultant with PriceWaterhouseCoopers L.L.P., a senior consultant at Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC), and as a managing consultant to KPMG Peat Marwick (now BearingPoint).

 

He speaks extensively on Doing Business in China. He has served as co-chair and presented at the annual conferences on "Legal and Financial Strategies for Doing Business in China". He has spoken at The Annual Conferences on "The Secrets of Doing Business in China", sponsored by the National Leadership Forum and the American Management Association; Strategies for Trade & Investment in China Conferences;  the annual conferences on "Due Diligence for Cross-border M&A Transactions"; and the University of Chicago School of Business Asia Business Forum. He has published articles in magazines and journals such as: The China Economic Review; Insight Magazine, a magazine of the American Chamber of Commerce-Shanghai; The MWorld Journal of Management, a publication of the American Management Association (AMA); the Global Perspectives pages of the AMA's website (www.amanet.org); the American Training and Development Association's T+D Magazine; the Project Management Institute's PMWorld Magazine; and The Practioner, a publication of the Organizational Development Network. Information Technology-related articles of his on software development, project management methodologies and enterprise systems management have appeared in Software Development Magazine and DataBased Advisor.

 

The MBA programs of DePaul University in Chicago, and Indiana University Kelley School of Business in Indianapolis are using China-business case studies he has written based on the work of his company Silk Road Advisors.

 

He has worked across a diverse range of business sectors, including: financial, healthcare, manufacturing, media, and information technology. He has worked on strategic-, IT-, and business-process consulting projects in China, Europe, Turkey, Latin America, and Canada. 

 

He has personally visited more than 50 economic development zones and dozens of cities throughout China in the course of his Strategic Business Development and Site Selection work for Clients.

 

He makes his home in Suzhou, China, and in Shanghai, where he also has offices.
